More than 30 people died due to floods in Afghanistan

Floods caused by seasonal rains have killed at least 33 people in Afghanistan. Another 27 were injured. Representatives of the radical Islamist Taliban movement reported this on Sunday, April 14.

Taliban spokesman for Afghanistan’s disaster management ministry Abdullah Janan Sayek said flash floods were reported on April 12 in the capital Kabul and several provinces across the country. According to him, more than 600 houses were destroyed and regarding 200 heads of livestock were killed. The flooding also damaged regarding 800 hectares of farmland and more than 85 kilometers of roads, Sayek said.

The local meteorological department, in turn, warned that rain is expected in most of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces in the coming days. According to the forecast, the most precipitation will fall in the provinces of Ghazni, Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar.

Aid from abroad has decreased

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, the volume of foreign aid to this Asian country has collapsed, AFP notes. This makes it difficult to deal with the consequences of natural disasters.
