Asunción, IP Agency.- A total of 28,384 micro, small and medium-sized companies are located in the departments of Concepción, Amambay and San Pedro, which is why the north of the country concentrates a high percentage of MSMEs within its territories.
Of this amount, 85% corresponds to microenterprises; while 3% and 12% are small and medium-sized, respectively, confirmed the Formalization Bulletin of the Vice Ministry of MSMEs, dependent on the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The Vice Ministry bulletin reports that Concepción, one of the most populated cities along with Asunción, registered a total of 7,715 MSMEs in 2022, which represents 2.1% of the country level.
Similar to the panorama at the national level, microenterprises are the most predominant with 88%, equivalent to 6,473; followed by 10% of small companies, regarding 805, while 2% are medium-sized companies, regarding 167 businesses.
Compared to the national level, employment formalization is relatively low, reaching only 8%.
Concepción is the fifth largest department and the seventh most populated in the country, with 204,536 inhabitants in 2022, which represents 3.35% of the total Paraguayan population.
Amambay
For its part, Amambay concentrated a total of 7,732 micro, small and medium-sized companies within its territory, according to official data.
This amount represents 2.1% of the total MSMEs nationwide. Furthermore, in 2022, Amambay had a population of 173,770 inhabitants, making it the eleventh most populated department in the country.
Like the other departments, Amambay concentrates a large number of microbusinesses, registering a total of 6,480 businesses, representing 84% of the department’s total.
Although the predominance of micro businesses is high, it is below the national level, states the Formalization Bulletin of the Vice Ministry of Mipymes.
In relation to small and medium-sized companies, these are in a lower volume. Thus, small companies total 284 businesses, while medium-sized companies total 268 companies.
Regarding formalization, 10% of them are registered with IPS and registered with the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security.
Saint Peter
As for the department of San Pedro, it is one of the areas with the highest number of micro, small and medium-sized businesses within its territory, reaching a total of 12,937, representing 3.5% of the country’s total, according to the Bulletin.
With 341,895 inhabitants in 2022, San Pedro is the fifth most populated department and the fourth largest, following Boquerón, Alto Paraguay and Presidente Hayes.
Regarding the percentage level of MSMEs, San Pedro has a high number of microenterprises, reaching 11,055. However, the report reveals that small businesses in the department have a greater presence than distribution at the national level, with a total of 1,546 businesses; while medium-sized companies reach 336.
In relation to formalized MSMEs, they represent only 7% of the departmental total, which is 5 percentage points below the national value, reports the Formalization Bulletin of the Vice Ministry of MSMEs.
