Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has said that more than 23,000 security personnel will be involved in the running of the World Cup in Qatar from November to December.

Mahmoud Qutb, Executive Director of the Workers ‘Welfare Division and Chairperson of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Workers’ Welfare and Labor Rights, said the Supreme Committee was committed to protecting the rights of employees, providing security for fans, players and officials, and ensuring their safety and well-being. He was speaking at a human rights webinar organized by the Center for Sports and Human Rights and The International Code of Conduct Association.

Explaining the legacy plans of the Qatar World Cup, Mahmoud Qutb also highlighted the SC’s priority issues regarding the welfare of workers involved in various projects related to the World Cup.

During the panel discussion on Mega Sporting Events, Private Security and Human Rights: The FIFA World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, he explained the progress of welfare schemes for workers and the steps taken to protect workers’ rights.

Qutb said the move, which was only in the construction sector, was being implemented in other areas of the tournament to ensure the well-being and safety of workers.

He added that the SC was involved in working with the Qatari Ministry of Labor to ensure the health and safety of security personnel who are part of the World Cup and to provide them with all facilities, including the Cooling West.
