More than 200 families continue to live in areas vulnerable to flooding in Boane district. According to mayor Jacinto Loureiro, the municipality does not have the money to resettle people.
The rainy season is over, but the trails of destruction prevail in Boane district, Maputo Province.
According to the mayor of Boane, Jacinto Loureiro, there are more than 200 families that need a new housing area. “We are making efforts to relocate the families, but within great challenges, because we need to create new infrastructure in the areas”, said Jacinto Loureiro.
According to the president of the Municipal Council of Boane, the solution is to resettle the victims, but the mission is almost impossible because of the lack of money.
“For example, we need tents, construction material, the municipality practically has empty pockets. Our partners need to understand the situation and support it so that we can effectively resettle the families”, he said.
This Monday, as part of the Mozal company’s assistance project for families, the governor of Maputo Province delivered donations to support flood victims.
Júlio Parruque said that the project will support more than 5,000 beneficiaries with around 3,000 agricultural kits, 12,000 agricultural seed kits and 1,000 food kits in the districts of Boane, Namaacha and Moamba.
According to Mozal’s director of External Affairs, Gil Cumaio, the support aims to respond to the needs of flood victims for two months.
For farmers who have seen their crops washed away, tools, agricultural inputs and seeds will allow them to restart their activities.
