More than 200 dead due to flash floods 2024-05-11 22:24:26

“More than 100 people died in Bagalan Jadid district” and “100 people were killed” in Burqa district due to flash floods that occurred yesterday Friday and destroyed more than 2,000 houses in these two areas, an IOM official said.

According to the UN agency, there are many dead in six other districts of the same province, always based on data provided by the Afghan National Disaster Management Agency.

Baghlan authorities had said yesterday that 62 people had died, although they had warned that their number “may increase”.

This spring has been particularly rainy in Afghanistan, with floods also affecting other provinces of the country, which is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Among those particularly affected are Ghor province in the west and Badakhshan in the northeast.

Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said today that there were “dozens of dead” in various provinces.
