More than 170,000 new confirmed cases… Pfizer Vaccine License for Ages 5-11

The number of new corona19 confirmed yesterday (22nd) exceeded 170,000. That’s nearly double the number on the same day last week, and the government has licensed the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5 to 11.

There are 171,452 new cases of COVID-19.

Excluding 181 imported from overseas, 171,271 were infected in Korea.

On the same day last week, the number of confirmed cases increased by nearly 90% compared to 94,43, and more than 22 times compared to a month ago.

Initially, the government expected the number to rise from 130,000 today to 170,000 at the beginning of next month, but it increased by regarding a week faster than expected.

The positive rate for screening tests at screening clinics is 29.3%, which means that if three people are tested, one person is confirmed.

The number of at-home treatment patients nationwide also increased by 31,000 from the previous day to 521,294.

The number of patients with severe cases rose to 500 once more following a month at 512.

The government said that a low fatality rate is more important than the number of confirmed cases, and that it will change the distance when it becomes manageable.

Amid a sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases in children and adolescents, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5 to 11.

This is the first corona vaccine for children in Korea.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that in clinical trials involving 3,100 people aged 5 to 11 years, safety was similar to that of adults, and no serious adverse reactions occurred.

So far, the tertiary vaccination rate for COVID-19 compared to the total population has been 59.9%.
