Asunción, IP Agency.- Since Sunday, April 28 and to date, the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) removed nearly 156,000 kg of marijuana from circulation in operations carried out throughout the country, a figure that is increasing thanks to the “Frente Sur” operation that began yesterday, Wednesday.
The operation “South Front” was carried out in the Caazapá National Park, in coordination with the Ministry of the Environment, where on its first day 108 tons of marijuana were destroyed, including crops, chopped marijuana and seeds.
Senad Minister Jalil Rachid indicated that 15 drug camps were detected, an alarming number, within the National Park. These crops also affect deforestation, he indicated in an interview with Paraguay TV.
This operation began following intelligence tasks that indicate that large quantities of marijuana are produced from the Caazapá National Park that go to Argentina, passing through Encarnación and other points in the department of Itapúa.
He said that interventions of this type had not been carried out in the place for a long time, which became a site of large areas of marijuana cultivation.
Other seizures
In the department of Amambay, camps for the preparation of the drug were destroyed and 26 tons of marijuana were seized. In Concepcion, 12 tons were destroyed in the district of Yby Yaú.
Additionally, in Alto Paraná and Canindeyú, 9 tons were seized in a drug camp and 256 kilos in a shipment ready to be crossed into Brazil, following its detection during patrols on the banks of the Paraná River.
Finally, through Operation Cuarzo, 141 kilos of “VIP marijuana” were seized in Arroyos and Esteros.
