Last year, the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) received 2,170 fraud notifications, 933 of them just to draw attention to fraudulent trading platforms, the most common scam. Among the consumers who contacted the FSMA on this subject, 73% had already invested and lost a total of 15.482 million euros in this way, according to the organization’s dashboard published Thursday.
On average, people who were deceived lost 15,896 euros. The majority of them were men, French-speaking and over 50 years old.
The other types of fraud reported concerned loans, wealth management, alternative investments and even cryptocurrencies.
