More than 1,300 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean. The rescue operation took place on Friday evening, according to the Coastguard Command
Italian authorities announced on Saturday that they had rescued more than 1,300 irregular migrants in the Mediterranean, as part of a rescue operation carried out on Friday evening.
The coastguard command said in a statement that its teams rescued 500 migrants on board a first boat. A second boat carrying 379 people was rescued by coastguard patrol boats, despite bad weather and rough seas.
The same source added that its teams also rescued 487 migrants off Crotone on Friday evening.
A total of 3,000 migrants have been rescued over the past three days in the Mediterranean.
The Coastguard Command has, in this sense, recalled that the total number of illegal migrants arriving in Italy has reached 17,592 people since the beginning of this year.
