A good part of Guadeloupe was deprived of electricity last night (January 17, 2022). The blackout came in the early evening, plunging 100,662 homes into darkness. If the current returned on average 2 hours later, there are many questions surrounding this incident.

It was a breakdown very quickly identified at the Jarry production plant, in Baie-Mahault, which was the cause of this power cut which affected almost all the municipalities in the department, shortly following 6 p.m. on January 17.

To avoid the worst and try to repair as quickly as possible, it was therefore necessary to lighten the load, indicates EDF Guadeloupe. A good third of Guadeloupe homes therefore found themselves plunged into darkness.
Thus, the cities of Le Gosier and Les Abymes were the most affected, with 17,532 and 12,917 homes without electricity respectively. The least affected were Goyave with 116 houses cut and Capesterre de Marie-Galante where only one user was able to observe a cut.
In our power stations, we have emergency routes. We have a main track which, indeed, was faulty… This main track is still being analyzed.
And we have a secondary line which was put into service to resupply the compressed air circuit and which allows the plant to operate normally today.

An exceptional situation, which EDF Archipel Guadeloupe was able to manage calmly thanks to its emergency systems adapted in the event of a breakdown of this kind.
In the followingmath of this long power outage, only the joint syndicate for water management and sanitation in Guadeloupe indicated that the distribution of water might be disrupted on the territory… No other consequence is to be expected. fear according to EDF Archipel Guadeloupe.
