The so-called “Cuban mules,” nationals who travel with the aim of buying cheap and reselling at a higher price back on the island, continue to travel on “shopping tourism” trips to Margarita, Venezuela, reported from the South American country.

Tourism Minister Ali Padrón announced that Margarita Island has registered the arrival of 1,300 international tourists during the last week. In a video shared through his account on the social network X, Padrón explained that these arrivals have occurred within the framework of charter operations and with destinations for tourist sites.

The breakdown of arrivals includes 129 tourists from Cuba, 455 from Russia, 590 from Trinidad and Tobago, and 126 from Ecuador, of which 30 travelled with tour operators. In addition, last week, the island welcomed an additional 307 tourists from Trinidad and Tobago.

Padrón stressed that inbound tourism on Margarita Island is in full swing, with visitors from various countries in Europe and Latin America. He also mentioned that flights from Colombia and Cuba are expected to arrive this month.

The minister stressed that international flights are operating normally, adding that the seven airlines serving the Caribbean International Airport are functioning perfectly.
