More than 100 dogs were rescued in Guarne: they were malnourished and abandoned

About 150 dogs, of different breeds and ages, were rescued by the authorities in a foundation that was dedicated to the shelter of animals in the village of Batea Seca, in the municipality of Guarne.

During the procedure, one of the canines was found dead, due to the conditions of malnutrition in which he was found. Others had diseases such as dermatitis and open wounds.

Major Jorge Iván Rubio, chief of the Protection and Special Services Section of the Police, said that due to this Four people were arrested for the crime of animal abuseIn addition, they were left at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Rubio recalled that this type of behavior is a crime that is typified in the Penal Code and has a custodial sentence of 12 to 36 months.

Bad odors, containers in poor condition and overcrowding of animals were also witnessed at the site. “There is evidence of a violation of the animal welfare of these sentient beings,” said the elder.

The rescued dogs are in the custody of the territorial entity of the municipality and are cared for by veterinarians from the animal welfare center.

For its part, the Mayor’s Office of Guarne reported through a statement that so far, three of the canines have been referred to a veterinary clinic to be hospitalized, for presenting health conditions that put their lives in danger.
