More than 100 activists resigned from the Voluntad Popular political party

More than 100 regional leaders and activists from Caracas announced this Saturday their resignation from the Venezuelan opposition party Voluntad Popular, led by Leopoldo López and in which he has spent much of his career. Juan Guaidoreported the former coordinator of the activists in the capital, Javier González.

As González explained, quoted in a statement released by the group, the decision was due to the fact that “for a long time there was various disrespect, ignorance and segregation of political and social leaders who worked for years despite the complicit silence of the national leadership of that organization”.

He indicated that for the group there was a “deviation from the values ​​and statements of Voluntad Popular.” He assured that this is the main reason for the resignation of “more than 100 regional, parish and activist leaders.”

“There have always been internal vices that we have struggled with. However, today we reach the point where we can no longer tolerate the regime of arbitrariness and bad practices that the day-to-day of the match has become. This was commented by González, according to the press release.

However, the group recognized “honest leaders and activists committed to democratic change” who are still active in the opposition political organization.

“Our commitment to democracy and the country has led us to be persecuted, attacked and threatened, but here we continue to fight for freedom and the necessary change,” González said.

VP is led by the opposition Leopoldo Lópezwho has been in exile in Spain since the end of October 2020.
