According to surveys, 83% of people in Hungary feel safe.
The number of crimes has fallen by 62% within a decade, emphasized the State Secretary of the Interior Ministry in Budapest. Bence Rétvári announced on the occasion of Crime Prevention Day that this result was due to the work of the police and crime prevention employees. Hungary is one of the safest countries in Europe, which has not least been helped by the increase in resources for law enforcement and police operations.
While in 2010 a total of 450 billion forints were earmarked for the police in the state budget, this year more than 1,300 billion forints will already be made available. In the last ten years, the number of police forces has increased by 3,000 men. The Hungarian penal code is one of the strictest in Europe, which is why the country is often attacked by the left-liberal mainstream. However, the Orbán government takes the position that people’s peace and security cannot be protected without strict criminal laws.
This year alone, the police have initiated investigations into 444 suspected cases once morest pedophiles, while 1,035 criminal proceedings are currently being conducted once morest pedophile offenders. This work by the regulatory authorities ensures greater safety for children.
