More Mondelez products at Colruyt

There are currently no more deliveries of Mondelez products (Côte d’or, Lu, Philadelphia, etc.) to Colruyt group stores, spokeswoman Eva Biltereyst confirmed on Wednesday. According to the brand, the supplier has announced that it wants to apply a new “substantial” price increase, despite an agreement concluded for the whole of 2023. Mondelez ended up confirming the information later in the day.

“We do not agree with this new request for a price increase,” comments Colruyt. If last year the rise in the prices of energy and raw materials had constituted an exceptional situation, things are “completely different” today and “large price increases are no longer justifiable for us.”

The group believes that the unknown element no longer exists and that suppliers have been able to prepare for the increase in cost items with a lasting impact, such as salary costs. “On the other hand, we see that energy and commodity prices are falling. So we believe that a reduction in prices would be more justified.”

Mondelez confirms that it plans to increase some of its prices and justifies this increase by “unprecedented market conditions”. He asserts that raising prices is always done as a last resort, following having absorbed the effects of inflation as much as possible. The multi-brand supplier says it is engaging constructively in negotiations with Colruyt, but acknowledges that some products will be missing from shelves in the near future.
