The number of international arrivals to Canada in October reached almost three-quarters of the level recorded before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in October 2019, according to Statistics Canada data released on Friday.

Foreign travelers were thus twice as numerous in October 2022 as for the same month of last year. “It corresponds to almost two-thirds (64.5%) of the number of trips observed in October 2019,” said the federal agency.
Canada is also a popular destination for Americans with nearly 3.3 million of them crossing the border in October, almost four times the number of October 2021 and 76.1% of the level of October 2019.
Canadians also moved to their southern neighbors as 2.8 million made the trip, a number up from October 2021 when 556,800 Canadians were reported.
“Of this total, 1.8 million trips were made by car, and almost two-thirds of these (64.2%) were same-day trips,” said Statistics Canada.
Remember that all border restrictions related to COVID-19 – namely vaccination, quarantine and the obligation to use ArriveCAN – were lifted on October 1.
