More farms again, really? | SN.at

“Peasant deaths stopped, more farms once more,” was recently reported by ORF. Even when viewed with boundless optimism, it cannot hide the fact that in Pinzgau and the rest of the state, hundreds if not thousands of hectares have fallen into the hands of non-farmers and speculators over the past two decades.

How might such a thing happen? Of course, that was only possible because some of the land traffic commissions also closed their corns. And what role did the agricultural property consolidation cooperative play in this? Has she exhausted her possibilities, fulfilled her legal mandate? According to my research, this cooperative would have capital available to acquire real estate, ie grassland, at the local price in the meantime, in order to then later sell it on to a suitable farmer. The board of directors, on which the President of the Farmers’ Union Quehenberger, the Salzburg Agricultural Councilor Schwaiger, but also the powerful at Raiffeisen determine what is happening, obviously watched as investors, property developers and speculators were able to strike and grazed everything.

To talk nice regarding everything now before the election, or to present seven new farms as a great success is probably a bit of an exaggeration, following Salzburg has lost around 1/5 of the farms in the past 20 years. Those responsible in politics, commissions and cooperatives in the province of Salzburg have slept far too long, they have looked the other way too often. Anyone who carefully drives through our country will see “on my honor” the massive damage that cannot be repaired – and “yes, of course” this “intended” oversleeping and acting also has an impact on apartment prices.
