More DMV self-service machines installed in NC stores

Charlotte.- The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the installation and operation of 6 new self-service kiosks for state procedures.

The new devices are coming to Charlotte, Raleigh, Cary and Fuquay-Varina. They will join those located in three Harris Teeter supermarkets, where they were placed as a pilot test.

Following the installation of the first kiosks, the agency announced the inclusion of new procedures available.

Currently, the kiosks are used to carry out the following procedures:

  • Renewal of driver’s license or state identification (ID card).
  • Request a duplicate and change of address on your state license, permit, or ID.
  • Vehicle registration renewal.
  • Payment of taxes on new vehicles.

By completing these procedures at the kiosks, people receive a temporary identification or driver’s license while the official credential arrives at their home.

To duplicate or change the address on the license, people must have at least the license or identification number.

The new locations

As with the first three kiosks, the new devices were installed in different Harris Teeter store locations.

Previously, the Division of Motor Vehicles indicated that due to limitations in the laws, kiosks can only be installed in Wake, Mecklenburg and Cumberland counties.

Thus, the new 6 locations of these devices are in the following Harris Teeter branches:

  • Quail Corners, 8538 Park Road, en Charlotte.
  • Town Center Plaza, 8600 University City Boulevard, en Charlotte.
  • Central Avenue, 1704 Central Avenue, en Charlotte.
  • Village District, 500 Oberlin Road, en Raleigh.
  • Cary Village Square, 885 Walnut Street, en Cary.
  • Fuquay Crossing, 1371 East Broad Street, en Fuquay-Varina.

Additionally, the Division announced that it plans to deploy the tenth device at Fort Liberty military base northwest of Fayetteville by the end of 2024.

While the kiosks are not expected to have any time restrictions, the DMV said the devices will be down for maintenance on Sundays from 12 p.m. to noon.

For questions about the service of new devices, you can contact the Division at the customer service number (919) 715-7000 or visit their website.
