Mag. Elmar Riepl, Division Manager Logistics, Direct Customer & Branch Logistics, dm:
“dm not only wants to sensitize its customers to how they as consumers can reduce their ecological footprint, but also to be sustainable as an economic community in an ecological sense. In addition, we pay attention to sustainability in our range, in the choice of operating resources and equipment in our processes. As a service for our customers, online trading is part of it and the ‘green packaging’ project is therefore a great initiative for us, which we are happy to help shape.”
Mag. Lukas Wiesmüller, Head of Sustainability, Spar Austria:
“Interspar has the largest range of returnable bottles among the supermarkets. Now we are going one step further and testing reusable packaging for shipping bottles. Some of the orders on weinwelt.at are sent in foldable reusable boxes with padded inner compartments. Bags are included for the return shipment, where the folded boxes can be stowed away to save space and returned via the post office. With the test, we are gaining important experience for reusable logistics solutions for all of our Interspar online shops.”
Mag. Günther Junkowitsch, Head of Logistics and Human Resources, Intersport Austria:
“As one of the largest sports retailers in Austria, Intersport offers everything a sportsman’s heart desires with its stationary shops and online shop. At Intersport.at, customers buy online, but still regionally from the Intersport dealer they trust. That was a big step in terms of sustainability. Another essential piece of the puzzle is the entire ‘green packaging’ project, thanks to which we are now able to reuse the required packaging in a very simple and uncomplicated manner. We are very pleased to be one of the first retailers to be part of this step, this is the future and we as entrepreneurs are all challenged here.”
Mag. Erik Hofstädter, Managing Director, Tchibo Austria:
“Our goal at Tchibo is to make 100 percent of our packaging environmentally friendly by 2025. For years we have been working intensively on optimizing our existing packaging solutions and prioritize reduction and reusable solutions. Best practices include switching to reusable carrier bags at an early stage and delivering our products to Tchibo branches and grocery stores in reusable transport packaging. It is also important to us to drive forward the development towards reusable packaging in the increasing online trade. We can do that as a partner of the ‘green packaging’ pilot and sent our first orders to our customers in reusable mailing bags in mid-February.”
Andrea Heumann, Managing Director, Thalia Austria:
“In times of online shops, pandemics and ever-increasing shipping volumes, solutions to the packaging problem must be found. Thalia tries to do this on several levels: our range of e-books, digital audio books and our tolino B-stock (used, refurbished e-readers) conserve resources in production, but also in packaging and transport. Our pick-up service in the bookstores or at the new pick-up stations, which are open 24 hours a day, reduces the number of mailing campaigns. With the ‘green packaging’, the remaining shipments are to be processed in a sustainable, recyclable and environmentally friendly manner.”
