Businessman Alexei Mordashov sold his stake in Rossiya Bank. He became a co-owner of the bank in 2003, acquiring an 8.8% stake in Severstal. In 2022, Mr. Mordashov came under US and EU sanctions.
“Currently, Alexei Mordashov does not own shares in Rossiya Bank and National Media Group,” a representative of the main shareholder of Severstal told TASS. Details of the deal were not disclosed.
According to a publication in the Official Journal of the EU, as of 2017, Aleksey Mordashov’s company Severgroup owned regarding 5.4% of Bank Rossiya, which operates in Crimea.
In May, sources for RBC and Bloomberg reported that the businessman’s structures withdrew from the capital of NMG. In 2021, Mr. Mordashov’s fortune was estimated at $29.1 billion, this year it is $13.2 billion.
Rossiya Bank mainly serves large corporate clients, the head office of the bank is located in St. Petersburg. Under US and EU blocking sanctions, disconnected from SWIFT.
