Maan is back, and with a whole new sound! In October the singer will go on tour to perform her new songs. In Humberto in Paris she shares more about her new music. In addition, the singer talks about how frustrating it was that wild stories were circulating during her musical break.
New music
Moon was a guest yesterday at Humberto in Paris to talk about her new music, but first she looks back on her musical break. “I’ve been taking it a bit easier this past year,” she says. After eight years of hard work, she felt the need to take a step back.
The singer also wanted to reflect on what she had done in the past few years and look ahead to where her interests lie now. That’s how Maan came to the conclusion that she wanted to sound wants to change. “My record label gave me a kind of carte blanche and I was allowed to make what I felt and where my heart lies. That was so nice.” Maan also worked with various artists on new songs.
She tells her story for the first time and releases a new song.

New sound
Despite her new music not reaching the top 40, Maan is not worried about it. “I don’t mind it that much, if I’m honest. I made this choice consciously. I knew in the back of my mind that it’s possible that a group of people won’t like it, but also that a new group will like it. I don’t want to live up to the expectations of what people want from me. I want to do what I want,” she explains.
In October Maan will tour the Netherlands and will perform many of her new songs. However, some of her old songs will also be played. “I will also play a few old songs”, she shares.
Rumors
During Maan’s break, wild rumors circulated about how she was doing. Something that Humberto also briefly addresses. “She’s on drugs, she’s in the gutter; that’s what was suggested,” he shares. Although Maan laughs about the speculations, she didn’t find it easy to deal with these rumors. “It’s so bizarre what happens when you don’t let people know about things yourself. I was doing great. I was on vacation and lying on the beach with a coconut in my hand, and then you read things like that. They seem like stories with your name attached to them, but they’re not about me. That’s so bizarre.”
“I don’t understand that part of the media. It’s frustrating and not fun. But I try not to think about it too much or have to justify it, because I know better. That’s not me.” Clear!
