Montsaunes. The trompe-l’oeil: a technique that has an effect

Alain Berges set up his micro-enterprise in Montsaunes on November 8, 2022. After a CAP in masonry, years spent working for various companies in the area and 17 years of commitment as a technician at the Saint-Martory retirement home , this craftsman wishes to end his professional career by specializing in a very particular field, that of trompe-l’oeil.

This is a technique that we often see adopted on house facades (windows, doors painted with characters, etc.), but which Alain Berges wishes to use above all in interior decoration. Painting a decorative landscape, frescoes, making representations in relief using the technique of shadows and lights, reproducing different materials and materials, such as stone, wood, etc., by painting. Among his achievements, photos of which can be seen on his Painted Instagram account, half-timbering, beams, stone frames, old wooden doors, perspective landscapes, etc. all this made only from paintings and whose trompe-l’oeil effect is guaranteed, suggesting that the beams or doors are from the last century! “The advantage of this trompe-l’oeil decoration work”, explains Alain Berges, “it is already a lower cost because, if you want to carry out real work, sometimes technically it is not possible, such as changing beams or integrating half-timbering on a wall, and moreover these are works that would be very expensive.”
