The project has been in development for several years, but was recently put back on track. If all goes as planned, the night train between Montreal and Boston might see the light of day by 2026.
The journey would take approximately 14 hours and include a few stops.
“Our departure schedule would be 6 p.m. from Montreal, arriving in Boston the next morning. The trip will include a meal for supper and a room to spend the night,” says Michel Gaudreau, consultant at the Night Trains Foundation.
The project might benefit tourism in Canada and the United States
“It’s a project that is interesting in terms of tourism, especially for our colleagues in the Northeast, in cities like Berlin (in New Hampshire) where winter tourism is extraordinary because of the white mountains. For summer tourism, the train also goes to Maine, to Old Orchard,” said Marie-Claude Francoeur, Quebec delegate in Boston.
As the rails already exist, Ms. Francoeur is currently working on collaboration agreements with the owners of the rails.
“I am currently working with the project managers to strategically identify who are the people to meet in order to find allies on the territory of a project of this scope,” she adds.
Marie-Claude Francoeur says she has been hard at work since April. “We met people in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts to be able to see what the interest is, but also to find out who will be those who will be able to accompany us to promote the project on the American side. “, she says.
