Montreal Reconstruction: Building for the Future of the Canadiens

2023-09-05 19:03:35

The word “reconstruction” has the gift of making people react in Montreal.

As much when we talk regarding the many works carried out in the city… As when we talk regarding the Canadian. For what? Because Montrealers are tired of living in a city full of orange cones and because CH fans are passionate.

The Habs are currently in that phase of their plan. He’s building a foundation for the future and that involves the tough times on the ice that we’ve seen for two seasons now.

The word reconstruction goes well with the word patience, by the way. The Canadian will not win the Stanley Cup tomorrow morning and the fans are aware of it. The vast majority of fans have accepted to see the club suffer momentarily so that it will be able to be competitive in two, three or even four years from now…

And even if it is not easy in the perspective where everyone wants to see the CH win, the observation remains the same. You have to be patient.

Tony Marinaro (BPM Sports) chose words a bit daring to describe the situation when his column today… But it’s hard not to agree with his idea:

I don’t know if the purpose of his message was to respond to that of Réjean Tremblay…

But let’s say the two men have completely different opinions on the situation.

Réjean Trembaly, who started writing his daily columns on the BPM Sports website, wrote this morning in a text that the fans should “put pressure” on the CH so that we get results.

To explain his point, he made a connection to new episodes of Netflix’s “Untold” series, which showcases the successes the Florida Gators achieved in the late 2000s.

For those who haven’t had the chance to watch them, you have to understand that Gators fans are mega passionate (like in Montreal, basically), to the point where the players “had to win or they had to agree to booed by 88,500 spectators”:

I listened to the Gators players talking regarding this obligation to win, this brotherhood that pressure created, this team spirit that the absolute search for victory made reign in the locker room and I said to myself that it was now the crucial element that the Canadian lacked. – Rejean Tremblay

I understand where it comes from… But we must also be realistic in saying that the Canadian simply does not have what it takes to win at the moment.

Even if fans start booing the club on the ice, that doesn’t mean they’ll be any better the next day. The guys may work hard and may get high on the job…

But he can’t compete with other NHL powerhouses. Not for now, at least.

It’s flat, but that’s the same. Yes, there was pressure on the Gators and the fans let the players know it was important, to win… But let’s not discount the fact they had the best quarterback in the NCAA and they had the tools to perform on the field.

The Canadian has not reached that stage yet. I said it from the start, but CH already has so many talented young players.

Could we give them a chance to mature before pressing the panic button?

A lot of

– It must be unique, like a moment.
