A man who had violently sexually assaulted a pedestrian in a Hochelaga-Maisonneuve wooded area in May 2022 was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

“Here I am confronted, once once more, with a man who saw fit to attack a woman because she was a woman”, dropped judge Pierre Labelle on Friday at the Montreal courthouse, condemning David catudal.

The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault causing bodily harm last March.

On the night of May 4 to 5, 2022, Catudal sexually assaulted a 33-year-old woman for long minutes in a wooded area on Notre-Dame Street in Montreal.

The victim, who cannot be named, “defended himself, struggled and was able to find refuge in an STM bus”, listed Judge Labelle.

Catudal was nabbed by the Montreal Police Service two weeks following the attack.

hard testimony

The magistrate said the victim’s testimony during sentencing submissions was “blood-chilling”.

“The sentence that will be imposed will unfortunately change nothing, erase nothing. I wish the lady that her pain can subside as soon as possible,” he said.

The resident of Saint-Constant, on the South Shore of Montreal, poses a “moderate to high” risk of recidivism, according to a pre-sentence report. He will be on the sex offender list for 20 years.

Catudal is awaiting trial in another case of sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm that would have taken place in February 2022.
