The Montreal Canadiens traded forward Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday for a 2024 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 pick.
The Jets must win the Stanley Cup for CH to receive a third round selection in 2027 according to what Darren Dreger reports.

According to information from Arpon Basu, the CH would not retain a portion of Monahan’s salary.
I’m told the Canadiens are not retaining salary on Sean Monahan in the trade with the Jets. That’s important because it leaves one retention slot open for Montreal to make further moves ahead of the deadline.

The 29-year-old center has collected 35 points, including 13 goals, in 49 games with CH this season. Only Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki were more productive.
Monahan became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, having a one-year contract and receiving $1.985 million.
We might expect an overall significant return if we rely on what the Calgary Flames obtained from the Vancouver Canucks in return for Elias Lindholm on Wednesday.
More details will follow.
