Summary
Which teams will reach the Gray Cup final? The answer today in the Canadian Football League with two clashes on our airwaves.
The Eastern final which is played in Toronto between the Montreal Alouettes and the Argonauts is a repeat of last year. Montreal lost by seven points.
The Argos were quick to move deep into Bird territory from the start of the game. Marc-Antoine Dequoy, however, had another idea in mind. The star safety intercepted Chad Kelly’s pass and returned the ball 101 yards further for the touchdown. The tone was set at BMO Field.
The Alouettes’ defense once once more stood up early in the second quarter. While the Argonauts found themselves in a third and short situation at the Montrealers’ 4 line, Shawn Lemon managed to stop Kelly’s quarterback sneak to give the ball back to his offensive unit.
Noel Thorpe’s unit continued to rack up big plays. With less than four minutes left in the first half, the Alouettes stopped the Argos in a third-and-1 situation.
After an interception by Cody Fajardo, the Alouettes defense once once more came to save the day. Lemon made Kelly lose the ball and Darnell Sankey managed to recover the ball to immediately give the ball back to the Birds. The Argos defense responded to the Alouettes by making two consecutive quarterback sacks at the expense of Fajardo.
The third quarter started the same way the second ended: with a big play from the Montreal defense. Reggie Stubblefield intercepted Kelly’s pass to put the Alouettes in a good position in Argos territory.
