Welcome to the Christmas Spectacle in Montpellier!
With 90 chalets that could probably accommodate a herd of reindeer, including 16 that cater to our most pressing needs—salty and sweet local delights—Montpellier’s Christmas Market is here to fulfil every festive whim. Whether you fancy flying chairs, a carousel, or a spot where letters to Santa mysteriously vanish, you’re in for a treat. The chalets are open from Sunday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and extend their hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 10:30 p.m. Who needs sleep when you’ve got a full belly of Christmassy goodies?
And let’s not forget the contribution of local merchants, who have banded together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to keep the festive cheer alive in the Écusson. It’s like a Christmas Avengers Assemble, but with more mince pies and fewer spandex suits!
Gaze in Awe at the Illuminations!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 26 at 6 p.m. when the streets will glow brighter than Rudolph’s nose, illuminating our way until January 5, 2025. Can you imagine? Two new sites are joining the festivities: the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle and the Arc de Triomphe. It’s like the Eiffel Tower of Christmas lights, except it’s not in a romance film—unless you want it to be!
Behold the Majesty of the Christmas Tree!
Reigning supreme once again is the natural fir tree standing proudly in front of the Opéra Comédie. Last year’s 15-meter high wonder returns—a whopping 10 meters from sustainable cultivation—pushing the very notion of holiday spirit to new heights. It’s practically a timber-loving giant that just walked out of a Hallmark movie.
The Events that Will Make You Say “Ho Ho Ho!”
Now, what would Christmas be without an array of delightful events? Gather ‘round as we unveil the splendid details from the warmly-named “La Pause Enchantée” tent—because nothing says ‘yuletide cheer’ better than a French name! Here’s a sneak peek:
- Saturday, November 23: Kick off the season with a wish ribbon launch and a Cumbiamba concert from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Let’s wish for wide smiles and unlimited snacks!
- Sunday, November 24: Grab your family for a photo with Santa and enjoy the boisterous Children’s Boom. (No, they’re not talking about the toy department!)
- Multiple Wednesdays: Kids can write letters to Santa and take photos like it’s a holiday mug-shot. Parents, prepare for a deluge of holiday requests!
- Fridays and Saturdays: Prepare for a series of events including blind tests, dance shows, karaoke nights, and themed quizzes. Yup, it’s a one-stop-shop for festive glory with plenty of head-bopping and belly laughs.
And if you fancy a little twirl on the dance floor, make sure you swing by for the DJ sets and, of course, tasteful wine tastings—because nothing screams “jolly” quite like a little wine in the mix!
Musical Melodies and Parades Galore!
Can we talk about entertainment? Enjoy the parades sprinkled throughout December as the streets fill with the sounds of jazz bands and the joyous jingling of Christmas. We have everything from stilt walkers to fanfares; truly, it’s like attending a Disney parade without all the long lines for funnel cakes.
Come join the festive fun! Whether you’re there for the food, the events, or to simply marvel at reconciling your love for Christmas lights amidst the dim glow of winter nights—there’s something for everyone. Dress in your finest Christmas sweater, or one of those avant-garde ones where everyone thinks you’ve made a fashion statement and not just a last-minute purchase.
As we indulge in the madness that makes December merry, let’s embrace every moment. After all, it’s the most wonderful time of the year—unless you get trapped behind a Santa in the gift line. Happy holidays, everyone!
