Since 2014, the City of Montmirail has participated in Pink October, the month dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer in women. Thanks to the activities offered by volunteers, the community and the city’s merchants, €3,317 in donations were collected. They were distributed between the Godinot Institute in Reims for €1,328.50 and the League Against Cancer for €1,988.50. The difference takes into account a municipal subsidy already allocated so that in the end, both institutions receive the same amount.
The race, best contributor
In detail, the funds collected were as follows: CCAS for €1,182, the race (€1,525), the Tennis raffle (€115), Rural Families (€205), the Amicale du Château Renard (220 €), the Mikado store (€30) and the Vays roaster (€40).
The financing of the operation was able to count on the investment of the municipality for €6,000, and the generosity of all the sponsors for €3,100.
Around 300 participants in the race and 250 in the play
In his speech intended to thank all the goodwill in the organization of this month of October, Etienne Dhuicq, mayor of Montmirail, highlighted the attendance of the first race organized for Pink October in the city. “We don’t have the exact number, but there were around 300 participants in our first race for Pink October. Eleven activities were organized during the day of October 7 with the voluntary mobilization of thirteen associations and other stakeholders, including traders. We note the big crowds in the morning, a little less in the followingnoon. This day was a great success. »
The first local councilor wanted to thank by name all those involved in this success, as well as Amandine Bruneau, “small town of tomorrow” project manager newly arrived in the town, “who took the organization head on. of this day. »
The other great popular success for this event was the play on October 28 at the Roger-Perrin room where approximately 250 people came to attend the play made up of sketches written by Véronique Batteux, patient partner in cancerology, and staged scene by F. Hélène.

What to do with your donations?
“The checks that we receive go either to patients or to research,” said David Gadon, from the Financial Affairs department of the Godinot Institute, the reference center for the fight once morest cancer in Champagne-Ardenne. For his part, Xavier Beaumier, treasurer of the Marne committee of the League once morest Cancer, added his voice to the concert of thanks for the popular mobilization and the commitment of volunteers. Many people came to attend this ceremony. Among them, Nelly Griffon, at the origin of the organization of Pink October in Montmirail, who underlined in an aside at the end of this check presentation ceremony that she “has always placed this under the sign of prevention and breast cancer screening. » A screening that Norbert Bigeat, president of the Marne committee of the League once morest cancer, wanted to highlight in his speech.
