Caring for an aging population in the midst of a labor shortage poses significant challenges, but doing so in a minority linguistic context in Ontario adds another layer of complexity. Montfort has received expressions of interest from several private sector companies eager to discuss incorporating artificial intelligence into its operations.
“Our agile structure allows us to be nimble and responsive to these opportunities,” noted Giroux. “We want to leverage technology to reduce administrative burdens and ultimately provide better services to our patients.”
Further highlighting its commitment to innovation, Montfort Hospital will transition from the Meditech platform to the Epic platform in 2026. This move will enable seamless exchange of patient data with other healthcare centers, improving coordination of care and enhancing the patient experience.
Giroux acknowledges the significant historical context surrounding Montfort Hospital, recalling its near closure in 1997 when the Ontario Health Services Restructuring Commission recommended dismantling the institution.
