During the night from Friday to last Saturday, the Montéfiore fountain, which is part of Liège’s heritage and which was installed at the entrance to rue Neuvice in Liège, found itself completely dismantled and on the ground.
It would seem that she was knocked down by a vehicle but it is the investigation opened by the police of Liège which will have to determine it with precision. This malicious act was widely denounced by traders and residents of the district (read our editions of Monday and last Tuesday).

Safety at the “Volga”
The City of Liège intervened directly on Saturday morning to cut off the water from this overturned fountain while Laurent Hanquet, the owner of the “Le Volga” cocktail bar, secured the “chimney” of the fountain, which weighs around 180 kg. He was helped by an antique dealer from Liège and his son and by a customer to carry it to his bar.
This Monday morning, the City of Liège’s fountain service intervened to remove the entire fountain, which weighs around 1.5 tonnes! And, as announced, the fountain was not directly repaired but replaced. No sooner said than done ! This Tuesday, another Montéfiore fountain was installed in place of the old one, as had already been the case in 2015 at this location.
Congratulations to the service of the City of Liège for having reacted so promptly!
