Missoula County Public Schools released the following statement:
MCPS is aware of a threat made by email that was sent to numerous individuals, including staff of school districts in Montana, on Tuesday evening. Several MCPS staff also received the email. We are in communication with our partners in law enforcement.
This threat is not believed to be credible, and MCPS is notifying our staff and families that we plan to continue with our regular school schedule at this time. There will be an increased law enforcement presence at our schools tomorrow. MCPS does have procedures in place that guide our response in the event of a threat.
The safety of our school communities is our No. 1 priority. More information on MCPS Emergency Response guidelines can be found on the District website. We encourage members of our school communities to share comments, concerns, questions or suggestions regarding school safety by emailing [email protected].
Bozeman School District 7 posted the following statement:
I apologize for the late evening correspondence. Earlier this evening hundreds of school administrators and school board trustees across the state of Montana received a threatening email originating from the same sender. Some of our BSD7 administrators and trustees received the email. It was sent out in batches and was directed at school systems in all parts of the state. The message is an emailed bomb threat stating that bombs have been placed in schools. The message doesn’t specify any particular school or district.
We have been in contact with our law enforcement partners, and agencies across the state are investigating the threat this evening. At this time, we have been advised that it doesn’t appear to be a credible threat, but rather a hoax to cause disruption and concern across law enforcement and school systems in Montana. At this time we are proceeding with school at all sites tomorrow. If things change we will update parents and staff via email, district website, social media, and local media outlets.
I recognize that violent threats of this nature can cause increased anxiety and great concern for students, families, and staff. We take all threats seriously and we are incredibly grateful for our School Resource Officer (SRO) program and positive working relationship with local law enforcement agencies. You may notice an increased law enforcement presence at the schools tomorrow as we continue to work and monitor the situation.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:
Several schools in Jefferson County each received a bomb threat this evening similar in nature to threats received by other schools throughout Montana. The schools impacted included Whitehall High School, Jefferson High School, and Montana City School. The schools immediately coordinated with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a sweep of their facilities. The investigations did not locate any suspicious devices. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with the Montana Department of Justice and the FBI regarding these incidents. We thank our partners at the schools for their vigilance and dedication to the safety of our children.
