The police college of the Mons-Quévy area, made up of the mayors of Mons, Nicolas Martin (PS), and of Quévy, Florence Lecompte (PS), has initiated a suspension procedure with regard to the head of the corps Jean- Hubert Nicolay, the office of the mayor of Mons said on Wednesday. This procedure follows the road accident of the commander, which occurred on the night of March 11, 2022 near Asquillies (Quévy).

The police college had already launched a preliminary investigation into this accident last March and had entrusted the disciplinary file linked to these facts to the Federal Minister of the Interior. If this file is still in the hands of the minister, the head of the unit recently informed the president of the police zone that he was summoned to appear on several charges before the Mons criminal court.

Faced with these new elements, also transmitted to the Minister of the Interior, the police college decided to initiate a suspension procedure by order measure (for a period of four months, renewable) with regard to Jean-Hubert Nicolay. The latter will be heard in the coming days to present his defense. The commander of the Mons-Quévy police zone was the victim of a road accident on the night of March 11 and suffered minor head injuries. According to information from Sudinfowhich the police college did not confirm, a blood test taken at the hospital following the events would have revealed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
