Mons-Quévy Ducasse 2019: 30,000 People Attend Concert, Police Make Arrests for Public Drunkenness and Encourage Vigilance for Thefts

Given the very large crowd this Friday (30,000 people on the Grand’Place during the concert!), the Mons-Quévy police officers received help from their French colleagues. Given the density of the crowd, certain access points to the Grand’Place, on the rue de Nimy and rue du Miroir side, had to be temporarily closed.

With the concert and the good atmosphere, the beer sometimes flowed freely, even a little too much. The police had to make 39 administrative arrests for public drunkenness. Three judicial arrests were also necessary.

Minor fights

On the side of the police, we speak of an atmosphere “generally good-natured, but a little more agitated during the night, without there being any incident”. Some witnesses, however, noted that fights had taken place on the Grand’Place. “Not serious”, comments the police, without being able to confirm whether certain arrests resulted from these acts of violence.

Some Montois also had the unpleasant surprise of not finding their car. “Once once more, we have observed non-compliance with parking bans and this has led to several vehicle removals. »

Watch out for your phones!

Several cases of theft, in particular of mobile phones, were observed this Friday. The police therefore encourage everyone to be attentive. “We draw attention to the fact of being vigilant where you place your personal belongings, especially when you are in a crowd. For example, avoid putting your phone in the back pocket of your pants.

The Mons-Quévy police draw a positive balance from this day of ducasse marked by a large crowd. “We encourage citizens to continue this ducasse in this beautiful state of mind”.
