This rumor has been circulating for some time, it’s now official! The first Monoprix store in Belgium will arrive in Waterloo! The company Transversale (one of the main franchisees of the French brand) has obtained the establishment permit granted by the municipality of Waterloo.

This news may indeed come as a surprise. The reason ? The group that owns Monoprix, namely the Casino group, is going through extremely difficult times and is said to be in debt of 6 billion euros. Conversely, the Monoprix brand is doing wonderfully and so far has more than 5 billion euros in turnover. Monoprix works very well, having succeeded in attracting and retaining a certain clientele: that of the chic Parisian spirit.
Casino hypermarkets are in great difficulty and do not constitute a sure bet on the food store market in France. It should be noted that this is not really the first time that the Casino group has set up several of its stores in our country. Casino had already established two “Franprix” convenience stores in the town of Ixelles.
