Monkeypox: Batatais, SP, confirms the first case in a health professional | Ribeirao Preto and France

The GGD Batatais (SP) reported this Saturday (6) to have received the first confirmation of a positive case of monkey pox in the commune.

According to the municipality, it is a man, a health worker who works in the city, but is from Ribeirão Preto (SP).

According to the town hall, the patient is in stable clinical condition, with mild symptoms and few injuries, and has been followed, as have his relatives.

The health service advises residents to observe symptoms of the disease, especially skin lesions and when traveling to places where the disease is confirmed, and to consult a health service if suspected.

In the region, besides Batatais, Ribeirão Preto (SP) and Sertãozinho (SP) have also confirmed cases of monkey pox.

Despite its name, the viral disease does not originate in monkeys, it was only first identified in these animals. Transmission can occur through contact with an infected animal or human. The main symptoms are:

• a fever
• headache
• muscle fatigue
• Back ache
• swollen glands (lymph nodes)
• chills
• exhaustion
