According to the epidemiological update of Public Health France on the region, communicated this Friday, September 2, the number of new cases of Monkeypox is stabilizing following a phase of decline since mid-July. The monitoring body also specifies that the indicators of the Covid epidemic are down: – 2.1% for the positivity rate, – 16% for the incidence.
“In Occitania, as of August 29, 293 confirmed cases of monkeypox in people residing in the region have been reported by health professionals since May 11: following a phase of decline since mid-July, the number of new weekly case seems to be stabilizing”, indicates Public Health France, in its last weekly epidemiological bulletin, published this Friday, September 2. The epidemiological peak would have been crossed in mid-July. In France, 3547 cases are now confirmed.
Epidemiological data make it possible to draw a portrait of those affected: 97.6% are men, the median age of patients is 37 years. The four most represented departments are Hérault (107 cases), Haute-Garonne (84 cases), Gard (41 cases) and Pyrénées Orientales (26 cases).
Covid: an “R” always less than 1
The indicators are also down on the front of the Covid epidemic: Santé Publique France notes that emergency room visits have been down for three weeks in the region, 203 suspected cases were recorded from August 22 to 28, i.e. 70/ 100,000 views. The “R”, the reproduction rate, a marker of the evolution of the epidemic remains below 1, the threshold which reflects the dynamics of the epidemic: it is 0.8 points.
The Omicron variant represents 100% of the sequences: 93.2% for BA 5 and 6.4% for BA 4.
