A first case of monkeypox detected in Italy and Sweden on Thursday. This disease, present in West Africa, has been surfacing since early May in Europe and North America. The WHO fears a spread. Monkeypox is a rare disease which is cured spontaneously, the most serious cases affect children.

“Portugal has confirmed that during this month there have been more than 20 suspected cases of monkeypox virus infections, both in the Lisbon region and in other regions, five of which have already received a positive diagnosis, said in a conference of doctors Dr. Enrique Perez, responsible for COVID-19 at the Pan American Health Organization. Finally, the Spanish Ministry of Health has sent an alert to the communities because eight patients have been detected in Madrid. All cases were diagnosed in men who have sex with men.”

Araceli Arce, deputy director of public health surveillance for the Madrid region, confirms that “these suspected cases have a common element and that they are cases that have been reported in the Madrid region. They have not traveled to parts of Africa, where this virus usually circulates, and they have not traveled to the countries that emitted the first cases, the United Kingdom and Portugal.
