The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) announced the launch of the industry’s first open standard, AdaptiveSync Display, for the display performance of variable refresh rate monitors, as well as the MediaSync Display badge, which represents jitter-free playback for monitors.
VESA added the Adaptive-Sync protocol to the VESA DisplayPort video interface standard in 2014, enabling smoother, tear-free game images and judder-free video playback, while rendering displays at various frame refresh rates lower power consumption and higher efficiency. Since its launch, Adaptive-Sync has been supported by many PC and notebook computer monitors, but before that, there was no open standard for performance and quality to refer to.
In the future, VESA will provide a compatible label certification for monitors through a set of up to 50 complete and rigorous test rules, respectively granting AdaptiveSync Display or MediaSync Display labels to products; the former is for games with higher update rates and low latency The latter means that the product will support jitter-free media playback for all international broadcast video formats.
AdaptiveSync Display numbers performance levels
The VESA-certified AdaptiveSync Display badge will have a performance rating that includes a numerical value that indicates how well the display can run for Adaptive-Sync when tested at native resolutions (such as AdaptiveSync Display 144 or 240) and factory defaults The maximum video frame refresh rate.
As for the VESA-certified MediaSync Display badge, there is no performance tier provided because the badge’s product certification focuses on display jitter-free rather than high frame refresh rates.
VESA says that only monitors that pass all compliance tests can bear the VESA-certified AdaptiveSync Display or MediaSync Display badge, which allows consumers to easily identify a monitor’s variable refresh rate performance before purchasing the product.
Update rate, flicker, grayscale response time are all included in the test
The VESA Adaptive-Sync Display Compliant Test Specification includes up to 50 automated display performance tests covering key variables such as update rate, flicker, grayscale response time (including limiting overshoot and undershoot to ensure high quality video), video frame rate drop and jitter.
According to the VESA Adaptive-Sync Display CTS requirements, all monitors must be tested in the factory-as-shipped condition or in a preset factory mode configuration, and must also be tested at ambient room temperature to ensure that the monitor will perform at true It is evaluated and certified under the usage scenarios.
