Money as the Key to War: Potential Political Conflict with Northern Neighbors after the 2024 Elections

Money is the key to war. A political war with our northern neighbors following the 2024 elections? Information from our colleagues at Le Soir according to which a pre-agreement, or at the very least, a discussion is being built between the presidents of the French-speaking Ecolo-MR-PS parties regarding a review of French-speaking institutions, might suggest this. Are we cleaning up our house before perhaps a major reform of the State, particularly on the question of the cost of institutions? Fewer ministers, fewer deputies, reduction of double hats in governments… Obvious for the citizen, but also for the Minister of the Budget.

Absolutely, it’s obvious and I’m really happy that there is precisely this discussion. I learned it while listening to you this morning. I was then able to read the article in Le Soir, so I find that it is a very good thing, very good news to be able to introspect on the effectiveness of public policies since it is part of our institutions, and public policies that we carry out. This is what I have advocated since my arrival.”

Adrien Dolimont himself had publicly expressed his surprise regarding the size of his ministerial cabinet. A cabinet that it was possible to reduce by four, once more according to him. An announcement effect not necessarily followed by the facts, even if this is explained according to the liberal: “It’s not that simple. What I said was that I think we should be able to work with fewer employees, but today, the way we operate doesn’t allow us to do that. We must be able to reform precisely to improve efficiency, not lose service to citizens and ultimately reduce costs. That’s the whole point of public policies; we must be able to make them more effective in order to reduce the financial impact.
