Monella: A Tale of Extraordinary Pasta and Crispy Pizza – Closing Announcement and New Beginnings

The blue storefront of this restaurant does not go unnoticed when you walk around Place Flagey in Ixelles. Opened under the name Monella in June 2021 when the Covid-19 pandemic was raging in Belgium, the restaurant decided, to the surprise of many gourmets, to cease its activities. It was via the restaurant’s Instagram page that the announcement was made, without really giving the reasons. “It is with great emotion and sadness that we announce the definitive closure of Monella. This decision marks the end of an extraordinary adventure started with Petit Racines in 2018, where we managed to make you appreciate the fresh pasta of our dreams”, explain the tenants in a message.

“Despite the thousand difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have managed to overcome the obstacles and come back to prepare you this time thousands of crispy and tasty pizzas. We are now coming to the end of this beautiful story, which was made of ragù, burrata, spaghetti, fried bombs, schiacciate, beers and spritzes.”

The brand then thanks all the people who have contributed to the success of Monella. “We would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts all our employees, our many customers, suppliers and friends who have supported us throughout this great adventure. Your presence and your support have been invaluable to us.”

However, the adventure did not stop completely as the team moved to the Racines restaurant, on the Chaussée d’Ixelles. “We hope to see you once more soon at Racines, to once once more share moments of happiness, laughter and delicious meals together. Monella will forever remain in our hearts, as will our love for fried pizza. Long live Monella, long live the pizza fritta!”.
