Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers might hardly have imagined a worse scenario for his debut with the New York Jets.
Signed for three years at a total sum of $112.5 million, Rodgers was forced to leave shortly following the first offensive series he led with his new team.
The 39-year-old veteran general was hit in the ankle while trying to escape the pressure exerted by Leonard Floyd, and he then left the field in a cart, accompanied by the Jets medical team.
After exiting the tent where the X-rays were taken, Rodgers retreated to the locker room wearing a protective boot.
Moments later, the Jets confirmed that No. 8 would not return to the game, while specifying that magnetic resonance imaging tests came back negative, meaning Rodgers avoided a fracture.
It’s the team’s former second overall pick, Zach Wilson, who is now in charge of the Jets’ offensive unit.
Before his injury, Rodgers had thrown a handoff to running back Breece Hall, then followed up with two incomplete passes.
With the former Green Bay Packers star at the forefront, New York was thinking big for the 2023 season, following investing heavily when the NFL free agency market opened.
