Monarchy meets republic – classic meets jazz

BATHROOM A truly imperial evening is on offer next Tuesday, August 16, at 7.30 p.m. in the pump room: During a concert evening by Robert Werner & Band, Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate will provide an insight into life at the court of Emperor Haile Selassie, his exile and the idiosyncratic Europe’s view of Africa.

The stories of the multiple book author (including “Manners”, “A Prince from the House of David” or most recently “Who is afraid of the black man?”) are congenially accompanied by long-standing member of the Vienna State Opera Robert Werner, tenor, pianist and composer. Horst W. Kuprian leads through the program.

The prince of Ethiopia

Asfa-Wossen Asserate is an Ethiopian-German business consultant, best-selling author and political analyst. As the great-nephew of the last Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, great-grandson of Empress Menen Asfaw and son of the last President of the Imperial Crown Council Duke Asserate Kassa and his wife Princess Zuriash Worq Gabre-Iqziabher, he is a member of the dethroned imperial house that has entered history as the Solomon dynasty Has. This refers to the descendants of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and their common son Menelik. Among other things, Asserate will also have to find answers to the question of how Haile Selassie came to be worshiped by the Rastafarians in Jamaica.

The jack of all trades

Robert Werner interprets well-known melodies from classical music and jazz on the piano in a uniquely virtuoso way. Own compositions round off the rousing program. As a member of the Vienna State Opera, he appeared with well-known stars. As a gifted pianist, Robert Werner also plays regularly at the ball of the Vienna Philharmonic in the Musikverein. He is supported by Vladimir Kostadinovic on drums and Stefan “Pista” Bartus on double bass.
