Monagas goes for medals in swimming at the National Youth Games

Monagas will seek his first medals in history in the discipline of swimming, in the National Youth Games 2024with a team of seven athletes who will participate in an average of six events each, said coach Juan Maldonado.

Yngid Arias, José Alfredo Sánchez, Anabella Espinoza, Francisco Arias, Lisfrancis Cayones, Sergio Lara and Sofía Hernández are the young people who will represent the entity in the most important event of national youth sport, following obtaining their places.

“We have a good chance of getting onto the podium, because in the qualifier held recently in the city of Caracas, we managed to get into the first places”Maldonado stressed.

“The goal is to bring medals to Monagas, preferably gold”said Sánchez, highlighting that his preparation, both in and out of the water, has been very tough. This swimmer, currently among the best juniors in the country, will compete in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.

“I have represented both the state and the country, I have been a national champion in different events,” commented Yngrid Arias, another of the great promises of local swimming in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.

“I have been preparing myself to carry the name of Monagas high”added this athlete with extensive experience, as she has been practicing the discipline since she was 7 years old.

Lisfrancis Cayones, meanwhile, took the opportunity to thank Governor Ernesto Luna for “all the support that has been given to the sportand for the beautification and improvement works in the Maturín sports centre, leaving “the facilities are quite nice”.

It is important to note that Monagas will bring to the 2024 edition of the JDNJ a delegation of more than 170 athletes (qualified so far) in more than 20 sports disciplines, including open water and water polo, as well as chess, athletics, weightlifting and Basque pelota, among others.
