Monagas adds 169 athletes qualified for the 2024 National Youth Games

A total of 169 athletes, in more than 20 disciplines, have their places secured in the Monagas state for the 2024 National Youth Sports Games (JDNJ), to be held between October 15 and November 15, at a venue yet to be defined.

This was announced by the president of the Monagas State Sports Institute (By), Miguel Fuentes, in a press conference held at the athletes’ dining room facilities at the Maturín Sports Center, highlighting that more than 30 disciplines have participated in the various qualifying tournaments.

“Thanks to the support of Governor Ernesto Luna, our athletes continue to excel in different venues throughout the country,” projection.

In this regard, the weightlifting team stood out, which attended the qualifier with 20 athletes and obtained 16 places, while chess managed to get 14 athletes to compete in the different modalities of this discipline.

“In this second advance, in addition, open water achieved two places, modern pentathlon six, boxing two, taekwondo three and criollas balls qualified its women’s team”he explained.

In the first advance, athletics qualified 21 athletes, along with 13 from water polo, seven from wrestling, seven from swimming, seven from cycling (track and road), six from ratquetball, six from wushu, six from bocce, five from rhythmic gymnastics, four from Basque pelota, four from women’s 3×3 basketball, three from kickboxing, three from judo, two from kenpo, one from karate do and one from women’s coleo, in addition to the women’s field soccer team.

Monagas still has possibilities

Fuentes explained that fencing and the court and sand volleyball modalities have yet to attend their qualifying events.

“Also, sports such as karate do and wushu, among others, might obtain other places, so the number of athletes that will represent Monagas in the 21st edition of the JDNJ will continue to grow”he claimed.
