During this meeting, the Principality, represented by Carole Lanteri, Ambassador of Monaco to the United Nations Office at Geneva, and a good number of countries, shared their comments and questions on certain provisions appearing in the draft instrument .

Responding to gaps in health systems
The BNI is a global process created by WHO Member States in December 2021. With the Covid-19 pandemic having exposed many gaps in health systems around the world, the purpose of this binding instrument would be to allow countries to be better prepared and protected, in order to prevent future pandemics and to respond to them as well as possible, in particular through reinforced cooperation.
This process is parallel and complementary to the ongoing one on the strengthening of the International Health Regulations. Thus, the Member States within the INB meet periodically to discuss the content and the form of the potential future agreement.
