With the changes that took place on Twitter following the purchase of the social network by Elon Muskother networks such as Mastodon gained popularity as alternatives to the bird. Thus, we have already shown here other clients for Mastodon, such as Ivory and Mammoth.
In addition to these, another interesting client for the social network that has just been launched is Mona. Designed by the same creator as the Twitter client Springits main difference is the highly customizable interface, which allows extensive modifications even in the options and tabs displayed in the application, prioritizing pages and servers that are most used by each person.
Above we can see the option “Tab Bar” in Mona’s settings, which allows you to manage the buttons displayed in the bottom bar. Not only is it possible to choose between the existing options and reorder them, but it is also possible to create new buttons that direct you to, for example, specific servers. There is also the possibility of choosing the number of options and whether the bar will be slideable to fit more shortcuts.
Customization options also apply to the display of the feed, including the size of profile pictures and text, font, color, themes, and even alternate icons. The Mastodon client also has its own commented republishing system for posts, like on Twitter. It is worth remembering that Mastodon still does not have native support for this feature, so for those who do not use Mona, only the link to the original post with the comment will appear, although it is still interesting.
In addition, the app offers a series of shortcuts for functions such as posting and searching on Mastodon, switching accounts and adjusting settings. Also present in Mona are the possibility of seeing someone’s followers from a server different from yours, synchronization of the reading position and other elements between different devices, search in the feed, translation of posts, polls, notifications per account and even using the app with a video game controller!
Another interesting function is that of columns, to the TweetDeck. In addition to Mona supporting the Split View on iPadOS, it allows viewing in up to 10(!) columns on both iPad and iPhone(!) and Mac. There is also compatibility with other iPad features such as Slide Over, being able to open posts and the screen to write a new one in another window. MacOS and iPadOS keyboard shortcuts are also supported.
Mona is available for all three operating systems and has a free and a paid version, which unlocks the most advanced customization features. The Mona Pro version costs R$50 for each system, while the Mona Pro Max — which includes support for all three systems and Family Sharing — is worth R$80 or R$50 for anyone who has already purchased Spring.
In all cases, it’s just one payment — no subscriptions. ????
