The French Adapted Youth Para Athletics Championship is back, and it’s happening in Isère. On May 24 and 25, Moirans receives the competition.
Youth, sport and disability, without forgetting sharing, solidarity and surpassing oneself. The decor is set, more than to enter the scene. This week, Moirans is hosting the French Adapted Youth Para Athletics Championship. On May 24 and 25, there will be nearly 250 athletes at the rendezvous in Isère, at the Colette-Besson stadium. Committed athletes have mental or psychological disabilities, practicing a sporting activity adapted to their needs. All of these athletes are under the age of 21, and some are future hopefuls in their discipline.
First in Isère
In 2023, this is the first time that the French Para Athletics Championship for Young People has been held in Isère. However, the organizers of the Departmental Committee for Adapted Sport 38 are regulars. “We have already received the French athletics championships for all ages, and we have already hosted rugby, skiing… It is always a source of pride for us”rejoices Yves Frécon, president of the CDSA Isère. “It is also a source of pride to return to the pre-covid level in terms of participation. For the anecdote, the project was validated by the old town hall, and the new municipality wished to continue. I thank them”.
About fifteen events on the program
In 2023, the competition is sponsored by Nicolas Virapin, multiple world champion in adapted sport in the disciplines of running, throwing and jumping. So many events are on the program at Moirans, at the Colette-Besson stadium. “Sports are suitable for everyone”explains Yves Frécon. “We have javelin throwing, replaced by a vortex for certain categories. We have weight, length, height, sprint, middle distance… To combine all that, we have a quadrathlon, which will be a nice event to follow.”, adds the president of the CDSA. The event will be a great celebration of adapted sport, as the Virtus Games in Vichy (June 4-10) are approaching.
