Mohanlal said it’s not like this, you learned the dialogues without watching them and don’t act anymore: Kalabhavan Shajon

Kalabhavan Shajon is a favorite actor of Malayalees. He reaches the cinema through mimicry. Shajon talks to Popper Stop Malayalam regarding the misunderstanding he had regarding cinema in the early days of his career. He said that he used to think that mimicry and film acting were the same and it was Mohanlal who changed that thinking.

“The way we have learned in mimicry is different. Mimics can quickly grab people’s attention once they enter an audience. Dialogues can also be learned quickly. Because many characters appear on the same stage at the same time.

But mimicry is a different form of acting. It should not come when it comes to movies. It wasn’t until much later that I realized that it shouldn’t be like that.

In Siddique Sir’s Ladies and Gentlemen, my character was Mohanlal’s friend, driver and manager.

Mohanlal had no dialogue in one scene, only I had dialogue. I acted thinking that if I shock Laleton today, he will be demolished.

Because I have no difficulty in learning the dialogue. In mimicry it is habit. So he learned all the dialogues without seeing them and then recited all the dialogues during the rehearsal.

I am crying that soon following this Mohanlal will come and congratulate me. After the rehearsal, I looked at Laleton and asked him how he was doing.

He told me that you studied the dialogues without watching them, now act. I said that it was Laletta who acted.

Laletan said that this is not like this, this is a different program. Then he explained everything to me. That’s when I realized that cinema has a life.

It was Laletan who made me understand that cinema is not like going on the Chumma stage. “What Laletan explained that day helped me to do better,” said Kalabhavan Shajon.
