The captain of the Croatian football team, Luka Modric, confirmed, on Saturday, that he intends to continue his international career until at least the end of the European Nations League, following his team won third place in the World Cup Qatar 2022 at the expense of Morocco 2-1.
In response to a question regarding the rest of his international career, the Spanish Real Madrid star told Croatian television: This is the plan. It wouldn’t make sense not to play in the Nations League. Then we’ll see what we’ll do. I want to stay for the Nations League.
The 37-year-old knows that the next World Cup in 2026 may be a very distant goal, but he wants to continue wearing the red and white shirt.
The winner of the Best Player of the Year award in 2018 returned to the podium in the World Cup with Croatia following third place in 1998 and runner-up in 2018.
In this regard, he said: We have achieved something great for Croatian football. We wanted gold and we were close to it. In the end, we will return to Croatia as victors.
He added: Croatia is not a miracle that appears every 20 years. We have proven that we are durable. We can’t be seen as a surprise but as a footballing force.
